GOBBLE MONKEY CHOCOLATE BAR WINNERS!

Last month I posed a question: What if you could design your very own Gobble Monkey chocolate bar?

What would it look like? What would it TASTE like? What would the slogan be?

Well, the entries came in their droves*, and below are the best**

(*12 **all 12)

BERRY BUNNY by Splashie
SLOGAN: Add a bounce to your day with a bunny shaped chocolate bar
FLAVOUR: Strawberry and white chocolate
Gobble Monkey says: This sounds quite nice but I am unnerved by the green rabbit on the wrapper. 4 out of 7

LIMITED EDITION NUTTY MONKEY'S BANJO by BringBackBanjo
SLOGAN: Go ape for the little bar with the big taste!
FLAVOUR: peanut and banana milk chocolate
Gobble Monkey says: Nuts, monkeys, banjos. What's not to like? Well, nuts for one. I do like banjos though. 4 out of 7

CHOCO-MEH by Jen
SLOGAN: It could be worse!
FLAVOUR: Unknown
Gobble Monkey says: I like the fact that the Unique Selling Point of Choco-Meh is that it's of a very very low quality, but not quite the worst chocolate you could buy.  There's something comforting about that. 5 out of 7

BANANA WHIP! by Olu
SLOGAN: Which came first, the monkey or the egg?
FLAVOUR: Banana Whip! Banana Frittata! Banana Scramble!
Gobble Monkey says: Good thinking outside the rectangle here Olu - this would be a perfect Egg Day treat. And as we all know, monkeys did come before eggs. 4 out of 7

TOXIC-TOTS by Tom
SLOGAN: Almost illegal
FLAVOUR: Toxic
Gobble Monkey says: I'll eat anything that is almost illegal. Plus I know Austrian's are a load of pansies. However, this is really just very early concept work by Tom, needs a lot of fleshing out before launching onto the crowded fruit singles market. 4 out of 7.

GOBBLE-PONY by Frances
SLOGAN: Find it in EVERYTHING!
FLAVOUR: Unknown
Gobble Monkey says: I'm confused. 4 out of 7

GOBBLE BAR, by Terri
SLOGAN: Prepare your inner monkey for a bite of this!
FLAVOUR: Banana and peanut butter
Gobble Monkey says: Banana JELLY? Sounds mental. However, Gobble Monkey is nut intolerant and therefore this can only get 4 out of 7

CRAZY BANOFFE BONANZA! by Veronique
SLOGAN: It's bananas!
FLAVOUR: Banana and smooth toffee
Gobble Monkey says: Some nice abstract brushwork from Veronique on the wrapper here, reminiscent of an early Van Gogh. I don't think those two mascots would get along though. 5 out of 7

TWIXCEPTION by Jessica
SLOGAN: Twix within a Twix within a Twix... / Because one Twix is never enough...
FLAVOUR: Twix
Gobble Monkey says: This is the sort of chocolate bar I imagine Leonardo Di Caprio eating in a dream and then waking up to find he has eaten his pillow. I'm with him there - this is an incredibly strong concept only let down by 1) being impossible to manufacture and 2) poor draftsmanship.
5 out of 7

HERE'S THE TOP THREE:

THIRD:

TWITKAT by Kirk
SLOGAN: Smooth caramel, shortbread and "wafer" all smothered in varying quality milk chocolate
FLAVOUR: Somewhere between a KitKat and a Twix
Gobble Monkey says: Well this is 50% the best ever chocolate bar and 50% the worst. Therefore it should score 3.5 out of 7, but I like the name and the effort gone into the construction of the actual bar gives it an extra two points: 5.5 out of 7.

SECOND:

BANANETTO by Tracy
SLOGAN: Only for adult monkeys
FLAVOUR: Banana, toffee and amaretto
Gobble Monkey says: Three of my all time favourite flavours combined in a sophisticated bar for mature audiences. What's not to like? Well, my moustache for one. 6 out of 7.

AND THE WINNER OF £5 CYBER-CANDY VOUCHER IS:
COCO-NUTS by Amber
SLOGAN: Crunchy coconut chunks with chewy caramel covered nuts in creamy chocolate
FLAVOUR: Coconut
Gobble Monkey says: Why do those coconuts have legs but no arms? They're freaking me out. This bar is too nutty for my liking - Coconuts AND chewy caramel covered nuts? You've gone too far. However, strong design work pushes this up to a 6.5 out of 7

Well done Amber. Thank you to everyone who took the time to enter x x x

Why don't you let me know your favourites in the comment section below?

Gobble Monkey Chocolate Bar Competition 2013

HEY!

Remember the infamous Gobble Monkey cereal box competition of 2011? WHAT?!? What do mean no?!?

Check it out here then!

OK so here's a new competition - this time I want you to design your own 'Gobble Monkey' chocolate bar.

Here's one I made earlier: (NOTE: I deliberately made this rubbish in order to set the bar low)

There, that took me five minutes. See if you can do better in six minutes.

So you have to think of a name for your chocolate bar, design the wrapper and also give it a slogan. It doesn't have to good, you can do it on a post note and take a photo of it on your phone if you want.

THE PRIZE OF A £5 VOUCHER FOR CYBER CANDY (The World's Most Amazing Sweet Shop / Website) WILL BE GIVEN TO THE CHOCOLATE BAR I DEEM TO BE THE BEST

Here are the rules:

RULES:
1) Gobble Monkey is a family website, so no smut please.
2) Closing date is Monday May13th 2013
3) You don't have to use the my wrapper template,  you don't have to use the monkey. You can do anything you want.
4) No other rules

5) Good luck

GOBBLE MONKEY CEREAL WINNERS!

The moment has arrived. Two weeks ago, Gobble Monkey offered up a bag of PIG'S MUGS to whoever could design the best Gobble Monkey themed cereal, and now, we can exclusively reveal the winners:

SEVENTH PLACE: Plum Bombs by Quilliam Brothers
SLOGAN: "BOOM! Crunchy Shell, Fruity Core, TASTE EXPLOSION!"
This bizarre plum-based cereal obviously floated into the mind of a genius in a dream, and upon wakening, they grabbed a pen and scribbled down the concept on the first thing they could find before  they forgot it. And thank God they did. Gobble Monkey says: 4 out of 7

SIXTH PLACE: NATURE-O'S (Apple) by Charlotte Hope
SLOGAN: "Totally Organic"
The mascot here seems to be a talking tree growing out of a cereal bowl. If a tree could talk, would anyone bother listening to it if all it said was "totally organic"? There are little clues as to the nature of Nature-o's here, so I don't know if they would be nice or not. BUT I WOULD NEVER EAT AN APPLE FLAVOURED CEREAL ORGANIC OR OTHERWISE.
Gobble Monkey says: 5 out of 7

FIFTH PLACE: Go Bananas! by @Mullies
SLOGAN: "The fruity brekkie treat kids will love to eat!"
Look at the size of that bowl! And yet it only contains four bits of cereal. And what is Gobble Monkey holding? A banana or a Go Bananas? Or a knife. We will never know. Sadly, the logistics of making banana shaped cereal means that we will probably never see Go Bananas in the supermarket. But at least they, unlike Coco Pops, apologise for the side effect of turning the milk bananay. Even though, sometimes, I have banana milkshake on my cereal instead of milk. It is true! Gobble Monkey says: 5 out of 7

FOURTH PLACE: Gobble-Os by Laura Bassett
SLOGAN: "Make Milk Nice"
Lovely minimalist design work here from Laura. Is she making a complex comment on the creationism vs evolution debate? Or does she believe Gobble Monkey has died and gone to heaven, content to sit in the empty wilderness of the afterlife with only a banana (or two) for company?
We will never know.

Laura says: "they could also be called Multigrain Gobble-oops, Gobble the Goodness, Gobblers Crunchy-gobble-able Boulders or Choco-Gobblers" all of which sound confusingly delicious. And if Gobble Monkey was an angel, his halo would DEFINITELY be a chocolate flavoured cereal hoop. Gobble Monkey says: 6 out of 7

THIRD PLACE: Gobble Charms by Florence Parrack
SLOGAN: "Nothing but marshmallows!"
Florence says: "while I was making this I found out you can buy big bags of just Lucky Charms marshmallows" which I will DEFINITELY be seeking out and eating for breakfast EVERY SINGLE DAY. Gobble Monkey says: 6 out of 7

SECOND PLACE: Monkey Nuts by @lizimina
SLOGAN: "Delicious banana flavour crispy cereal shells with a chocolate centre"
These actually sound and look better than 90% of real cereals on the market. If the mark of a good cereal is whether you can eat them 'raw' (sans milk), then these would DEFINITELY pass the test. Plus, they "do not contain nuts" so are safe for Gobble Monkey to eat. Gobble Monkey says: 6 out of 7

FIRST PLACE! Twix Mix by @wlnesfield
SLOGAN: "Get YOUR daily fix!"
Amazing. Imagine what you'd look like if you really did get YOUR daily fix of Twix Mix everyday. It doesn't bear thinking about. Does anyone drink tea and eat cereal at the same time though? Probably the same kind of mentalist that would eat Twix and milk for breakfast.

Brilliant work though (I especially like the cunning use of the upside down 'W'), and now all I have to do is persuade Mars Inc to relinquish the copyright so we can go into production. @wlnesfield has even correctly anticipated the the GM review of Twix Mix on the side of the box, and has won himself a packet of Pig's Mugs. Gobble Monkey says: 7 out of 7
